Why You Should Consider Rivendell College for Your Student

As parents, you are legitimately concerned about these contemporary trends: Nine of ten high school students who identify themselves as Christians and go on for a college degree will attend a public institution; five of ten will lose their faith before the end of their freshman year, and seven of ten will walk away from their faith before they graduate.

So, you consider sending your student to a private Christian college, hoping that it will protect the faith-and-values investment you’ve made for eighteen years as he or she transitions into adulthood. But there can be a potential downside to that decision as well.

Students in Christian colleges often pursue the integration of faith and learning without significant interaction with the mainstream academy, and real-life engagement with non-Christian viewpoints and the people who embrace and advocate them. As a result, they can miss the valuable experience of interacting with the kind of people they will work with and live next door to for the rest of their lives, and of shaping their own vision of life in that context.

At Rivendell College students get the best of two worlds, and an experience that we believe is true to real life. We offer scholarly Christian perspectives on a campus that is strategically located next to a major research institution. Our residential student communities are housed in former fraternities and sororities within the larger student community in a university town (currently in Boulder and Fort Collins. We encourage our students to take some of their coursework at the University of Colorado, Colorado State University or the University of Northern Colorado, and we invite students from these universities to enroll in Rivendell classes.

Rivendell students are encouraged to interact with university campus life by participating in Christian student organizations, using public facilities such as student unions and libraries, attending public lectures and conferences, and enjoying university athletic, music, and theater events open to the public. We believe that this strategic location, with its real-life context and world-engaging educational experience, makes Rivendell a wonderfully unique liberal arts college.
